Sovecon cuts Russia's '23 wheat harvest forecast by 700,000 tns

MOSCOW, Mar 2 (PRIME) -- Researcher Sovecon has cut the forecast for the wheat harvest by 700,000 tonnes to 85.3 million tonnes in 2023 because of little precipitation in the south of Russia and an ice crust in the central regions, the company said in a statement late on Tuesday.

"Currently, the south receives very timely precipitation, which should help the growing season of winter wheat, which will begin soon,” it said.

Winter wheat harvest is assessed at 60.9 million tonnes, with the forecast changed from 61.6 million tonnes, the spring wheat forecast remains at 24.4 million tonnes.
